The European Climate Foundation reached out to us in summer 2022, as an energy crisis sparked by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine loomed over Europe.
Over the winter, we set out to document the impacts of the crisis on vulnerable members of society in Germany, Poland and France.
As skyrocketing energy costs caused rapid inflation, we focused on bakeries and the new challenges faced by their owners.
The protagonists’ situations and attitudes vary, but a common theme emerged: the crisis is the result of missed opportunities to implement a fair and sustainable transition to clean sources of energy.
The films have been integrated into campaigns for International Week of Energy Poverty Action, placed with media outlets, and used in online campaigns.
